Comcast Contract Negotiations Discussion-Michael Mael
Michael Mael said we should have received a proposalfrom Comcast by now. He can speakto
Towns about the process, but cannot get involved in discussions/negotiations.
First he explained how the negotiations timeframe works. Then he explained that this is strictly
about cable, it has nothing to do with internet, even though the two seem co-mingled.
We cannot discuss rates and channel carriage in the contract, you can negotiate where they
have to provide service and the length of contract.
Mr. Nelson commented that itseems like our hands are tied.
Mr. Eliason asked what our bargaining chips are, Michael Mael said the strongest chip is the
length of license.
Michael Mael said he strongly recommends looking at othertowns'contracts, specifically after
February 2020.
