New Business
FY23-FY28 CIP
The Committee reviewed the proposed CIP. Seven projects were originally proposed for FY23
but one has since been removed. The Selectboard decided not to pursue a building to enclose
the Pickleball courts at this time. It had been proposed because of noise complaints from a
neighbor but the projected costs are too high. Tom suggested exploring options for white noise
to obscure the sound and/or research use of a different paddle.
Estimates for some projects still being finalized. Review by the CIP Committee hasn't been
scheduled yet so PCC has time to review an updated CIP request at their next meeting.
Flooring. This is an annual request. Funds have been used recently for replacing carpet
in classrooms at MMHS. The funding request is increased in FY23 to $75,000 from
$50,000. Replacement of the VCT in the entire 1st floor A&B Wing hallways at MMHS as
well as replacement of the porcelain tile with rubber flooring on the stairs leading to the
library is proposed. The Committee recommended adding 20%to the estimate because
of unpredictable material prices between now and July 2022 when the project would be
undertaken.
MMHS Field Improvements. The project is replacement of the grass field in the
Stadium Field with synthetic turf and reconstruction of the Track. The Committee had
proposed in FY21 an almost$8 million project to replace the grass in both the Stadium
and the Upper Fields with synthetic turf. This project was deferred because of
wastewater. The Town decided only to pursue the Stadium Field and Track in FY23. The
funding request is $2,970,350. An application for funding of$1,709,400 was submitted
to the Community Preservation Committee (CPC). CPC meets 12/2 to consider. The
balance of the request would be funded through CIP.
DNR Facility. As discussed earlier, additional funding will be required to renovate the
units purchased. The total funding needed may be $300,000 - $400,000. The estimate
will be finalized for the next Committee meeting.
MMHS Gym Upgrades. The project is the funding for the first phase of an upgrade to
the gym at the MMHS. This phase of the project will include refinishing of the wood
floor and replacement of the scoreboard/shot clocks. Phase 2 proposed in FY24 is
replacement of the bleachers.
School HVAC Upgrade. Upgrading of the HVAC system at the three schools to provide
air conditioning throughout the buildings is being reviewed. Currently, air conditioning
is limited to administrative offices, the MMHS auditorium and library, the QS library, and
limited interior MMHS classrooms. Warmer temperatures in spring and fall as well as
temperatures in the summer are impacting use of the buildings. A feasibility study
funded by the School Department is underway to assess what upgrades and/or
2
