Discussion - Trees Gail and Mel Monson, 16 PGA Lane, Mashpee, 1A Southport Residents The Chairman called this matter to order and recognized Me-1 Monson, who informed the Board that he and his wife would like to re-address and review the issue of tree safety on their property. M . Monson reported th-at on January 18, 2006, a pitch pine tree split and fell on their home. At this time the Monsons appeared before the Planning Board to request that they be allowed to remove the remaining trees for safety reasons.. After seVeral meetings the Planning Board granted permission for the removal of the tree. Dennis Bal arini recalled the property and stated the Board had given approval for the removal of trees around the house. r. Monson stated that the Planning Board had thereafter asked an independent arborist, Brian Casey, to male an inspection/determination. Dennis B l arini agreed that the Board had requested Mr. a-sey to in .peet the large specimen tree at the back of the property. Permission had been granted for the removal of the trees around the property (approximately 6 or 7 trees) . Mr. Monson informed the Board that on April 16, 2.007, another tree fell onto his home and caused tremendous damage. He provided the Board with pictures. References were made to the plan and Mr. Monson provided pictures of both. trees and the damage to his property. It was the general consensus of the Board to instruct Mr. Monson to remove the remaining trees around his home in order to avoid any further danger to the hom' e/homeowners. The Town Planner noted that the trees in this area had been healthy and were damaged by construction equipment. He also clarified that the tree specimen is white pine and that they are extremely fragile with a sal'low root system. 1
