1, <br /> Town of Mashpee <br /> Planning Board <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> December 2, 1998 <br /> The Town of Mashpee Planning Board Meeting was called to E <br /> order in Conference Room #1, Mashpee Town Hall, 16 Great Neck <br /> Road North, Mashp eelMassachusetts at 7 . 00 p.m. on Wednesday, <br /> December 2 1 .998 . The vice Chairman, John Kuchinski, presided. <br /> Planning Board Members present: John Kuchinski vice <br /> Chairman; Chance Reichel, Clerk; Dennis Balzarini. an <br /> d James <br /> Dorgan. <br /> Absent: Patrick Coffey, Chairman; and Scott Mitchell, F� <br /> Associate Member. <br /> Also present--, F. Thomas Fudala, Town Planner; Eric Twarog, , <br /> Assistant Town Planner; and Charles Rowley, Consulting Engineer. <br /> A quorum being present, the vice Chairman called the Meeting <br /> to order. As the first order of business he recognized. Richard <br /> York. <br /> Non-Agenda Item <br /> Richard York-Shellfish Constable <br /> Update-Mashpee River Study <br /> j <br /> Mr. York reported there are currently several different <br /> studies being conducted with reference to the Mashpee River, as <br /> well as monitoring programs. Those being the State Division of <br /> Marine Fisheries required monitoring, The Shellfish Department <br /> bacteriological study, and the Howes , study. <br /> Mr. York stated the Shellfish Department study has <br /> determined there is no evidence of septic system input; there is <br /> however evidence of wildlife and road runoff contamination. <br /> Mr. York further informed the Board of a Cotu i t Monitoring <br /> Group with whom the Shellfish Department is coordinating certain <br /> aspects of the study. <br /> (There was some discussion regarding nitrogen loading from <br /> septic systems. ) <br /> Mr. York stated Dr. Howes? study no longer calculates <br /> bacteria levels as there has been no evidence of human septic <br /> problems involved. Mr. York indicated the current concern is <br /> `.whether or not the River contains any disease-causing bacteria. ` <br /> f• <br /> Mr. York stated he conducted one test in order the identify <br /> the species of the bacteria, the results of which identified K. x <br /> Cxytoca (blood diseases and spinal meningitis) . <br /> f <br />
