* Mashpee Zoning <br />Board of Appeals Minutes <br />1 November 14, 2007 <br />TOWN OF MASHPEE <br />Zoning Board of Appeals <br />Minutes — Wednesday, November 14, 2007 <br />The Mashpee Zoning Board of Appeals held a Public Hearing on Wednesday, November <br />14, 2007. at the Mashpee Town Hall. Board Members Robert Nelson, Zella Elizenberry, <br />Jonathan Furbush, James Reiffarth and George Bolton were present along with alternate <br />member William Blaisdell. Alternate Member Martin Gordon was absent. <br />Robert Nelson opens the hearing at 7:00 p.m. <br />Zella Elizenberry reads the continuances. <br />Martin Gordon has tendered his resignation — the Board has a copy of it. Robert Nelson <br />makes a motion to accept his resignation with regret . Zella Elizenberry seconds the <br />motion. All agree. <br />Vernon Lawrence: Requests a Variance from Section 174-31 of the Zoning By-laws to <br />seek relief from the setback requirements in order to build a detached 24' x 28' garage on <br />property located in an R-5 zoning district at 160 Timberlane Drive (Map 22 Parcel 8C) <br />Mashpee, MA. <br />Sitting: Robert Nelson steps down from this hearing. Zella Elizenberry, Jonathan <br />Forbush, James Reiffarth, George Bolton and William Blaisdell. <br />Vernon Lawrence represents himself at this hearing. He is seeking a variance in order to <br />build a over size two car garage.(24' x 28') The set back requirement is 25 feet and he is <br />seeking a 16.7 foot sideline variance. The Board asks why he cannot connect the garage <br />to the house to reduce the large variance. He does not want to attach the garage because <br />he wants to eventually make a breezeway between the house and the garage nor does he <br />want to lose the light in the windows on the existing dwelling. The Board feels this is a <br />very large variance and Zella Elizenberry asks the audience if there are any comments. <br />Janct Walsh of 166 Timerlane Drive (direct abutter): Has a huge problem with this <br />garage. It is far too close to her house (bedrooms) and she feels the size of the garage <br />should be reduced or pushed back. She is selling her house and feels this would be a <br />detrimental impact. She is very much against this variance. <br />The Board asks about the shed, the greenhouse and portable garage. The shed will be <br />moved and the other items will be removed. Mr. Lawrence indicates the garage is extra <br />long due to a workshop he wants in the garage. Zella Elizenberry indicates to the <br />• applicant that he can see this will be denied as applied for. He suggests that Mr. <br />
