TOWN OF M .SHPEE Board of Apeals E Minutes - February 22, 1995 I The Mashpee Board of Appeals held a meeting on Wednesday,February 22, 1995 at 7:30 P.M. at the Mashpee Town Hall, Board members present and acting throughout were; Edward M. Govoni, Chairman; James E. Regan,III,Vice Chairman; and Associate Members Cheryl A. Hawver and Kenneth E. Marsters, Building Inspector William F. Hauck was in attendance. Mashpee High School Building Committee- (Symmes Maim and McKee Associates,Inc. - Agent)Request a Variance from Sections 174-31 and Section 174-38 of the Zoning By- laws for permission to vary the maximum building height from 35 feet to 40 feet and to vary the parking space size from 9 feet in width and 20 feet in length to 9 feet in width and 18 feet in length on property located in an R-5 zoning district at Route 151 and Old Barnstable Road (Map 79,Block 1;Map 80,Blocks 1,2,4,5; May 73, Blocks 13, 14, 15, 16;Map 72,Block 100)Mashpee,MA, Mashpee High School Building Committee-Request a Special Permit under Section 174- 51,D of the Zoning By-laws to allow for signage to exceed 20 'square feet on above property. t x3 Members sitting; E. Govoni, J. Regan, C. Hawver Joel Seely of Symmes Maini and Dan Solien,Landscape architect, represented the applications. Mr. Seeley reviewed the elevations of the high school and explained that the two peaks of the building were at the auditorium to allow for lights, etc. and at the science labs. The auditorium is set back ftom.the adjacent walls as are the science labs. Mr. Solien discussed the parking and stated tW they wanted'to reduce the paved surface on the site and that the 9' x 18' is common it many Towns and would be sufficient. The Board discussed fact that the Stop and Shophparking is 9' x 18'. He also reviewed the sign design, The sign above grade will be 2'4"x 10'or 24 square feet. The sign will be made of the same materials as the school and will be uplighted from the ground, Ms. Hawver moved to grant the Variance under Section 174-31 to vary the building height from 35' to 40' and size of the parl�irig spaces from 9' x 20' to 9' x 18'. The Board determined that the architectural design and acoustics and ventilation requirements justified the Variance, Mr. Govoni seconded. All agreed, Ms. Hawver moved to grant the Special;Permit to allow the size of the sign to exceed twenty square feet and allow the 24 square;.feet. Mr. Govoni seconded, All agreed. I
