TOWN OF MASE PEE <br />Board of Appeals <br />• Minutes <br />Wednesday. October 27, 1993 <br />7:30 p.m. <br />The Mashpee Board of Appeals held a meeting at the Mashpee Town <br />Hall on Wednesday. October 27.1993 at 7:30 p. m. Members present were: John J. <br />Friel, Chairman; Cheryl Hawver, Associate Member; and Clerk, Edward M. Govoni. <br />Vice Chairman. Michael Makunas joined the Board for the discussion section. <br />Building Inspector William Hauck was in attendance. <br />Mr. Friel called the meeting to order at 7:35 p. m. <br />Mr. Friel noted that there was a request for a change in the order of the hearings. <br />and that the req, est of the Wayquoit Say National Estuarine Research Reserve would <br />be heard first. <br />Waguoit Bay_plational Estuarine Research Reserve - Request a Special <br />Permit under Sections 174-25.H.6 and 174.25.1.9 of the Zoning By-laws for permission <br />to construct a temporary research structure similar to a dock and float. The structure <br />will be used to study the environmental effects of dock construction, use andremoval. <br />The proposed study site is at the mouth of Great River on a 10 acre parcel of land <br />• (Map 124. Block 69) Mashpee, Massachusetts. (Owner of record: Town of Mashpee). <br />Bob Sherman. Mashpee Conservation Commission Agent introduced Gr. Rick <br />Crawford of the Reserve and mentioned that the Commission was waiving fees for this <br />project. Cr. Craw'ord explained that they had been asked by Massachusetts Coastal <br />Zone Manacement to takeover the study. The study involves the effect of decks on eel <br />grass: biciegicai effects of docks on sheilfish; and the effect of boats at the docks. <br />The--': cu!d be ^o access from the land and half of the dock wc' dd he <br />constructed of treated materials and half of it would be made with untreated materials. <br />It would be a temporary structure with a time frame of three years. at which time the <br />dock would be removed and a study would be made of the recovery period.
