-A grant has been submitted for Santuit Pond storm water mitigation
- We will trial a ramp attendant for the Great River Launch under the Recreation Dept.
- The new Shellfish Regulations have been passed and are ready to be enforced.
-An overview/summary of DNB's water quality program for all freshwater ponds was given to
provide differentiation from the program we run with UMass Dartmouth.
- The study for stormwater runoff that the office submitted to the State has made the"Top 5"
list and we are hopeful of receiving grant funds.
Donovan McElligatt stopped by at the end of the meeting to comment on the LR/GR NOI he
had received. He impressed upon the Commission to recognize that the area is an
environmentally sensitive area and that evidence of sponges being present needs to be
recognized.Dick Noonan will follow up with Donovan on this matter.
Committee Reports:
Mashpee/Wakeby and Johns Pond and fresh waters:Relevant maters covered above in
DNR/Harbormaster's report
Popponesset Bay Area:Nothing to report
Waquoit Bay Area:Nothing to report
Water Qualify:Training for the program will be held on 6/29 at 3PM.All testing equipment will
be handed out at that time as well.We have 15 boats and 34 volunteers ready to go.
No date has been set to report to the Select Board on last season's testing results.
Given the Town is moving forward with a sewer plan Don McDonald asked whether this
program was still needed.Ashley replied that monitoring and tracking our waters was still
important to keep pressure on the Town to move forward. She also noted that this program
specifically monitored nutrient buildup in the waters which is an important measurement.
County Dredging:Ken reported that we do not need to submit any Articles for the October
Town Meeting. And that the Poppy Approach Channel will be scheduled for December 2022
like it was last year.
Ken reported that we received from Save the Bay the draft of the"easement"that would
enable us to continue using the Spit for the disposal of dredge materials.(As a note,Audubon
will not allow us to use their property). The draft has gone out to the appropriate groups,
including the Town,for review.
LG/GR Expansion Project.Dick reported that the NOI has been filed with Conservation and the
National Heritage application has gone out for review. The next steps will be:
-Order of Conditions once the Notice of Intent is approved.
-A determination of"no take"from Natural Heritage with a time of year restriction for dredging
(most likely).
-filing with MEPA for review(are expecting they will want us to file an Environmental
Notification Form or Expanded Environmental Notification Form).
-When we file with MEPA we will also file with Chapter 91 and
lastly, the Corps of Engineers and Coastal Zone Management.
New Business:
No new business
