Mashpee Select Board <br />Minutes <br />July 28, 2022 <br />Present: Selectman John J. Cotton, Selectman David W. Weeden, <br />Selectman Carol A. O'Hara <br />Meeting Called to Order by Chair Cotton at 1:05 p.m. <br />Mashpee Town Hall, Popponesset Meeting Room <br />PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE <br />MOMENT OF SILENCE <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />• Discussion and Approval of October 4, 2022 Special Town Election <br />The Town Clerk presented to the Board a proposed special election calendar and venue for the <br />Special Town Election to fill the vacant Select Board seat until the May 2023 election. <br />Ms. Kaye asked that the Board vote to approve a date of October 4, 2022 with voting being <br />abbreviated from the usual 7 am until 8 pm. The voting would take place at the Quashnet School <br />at 150 Old Barnstable Road. <br />Board members expressed concerns with the abbreviated voting hours and the Town Clerk stated <br />that voters may vote by absentee ballot up until the Friday before October 4 (September 30). <br />Selectman Sherman said that abbreviated hours make it difficult for residents to vote. <br />Chair Cotton suggested hours of 12 Noon until 7 p.m., as lonr,as the hoyrs,qf votingand the <br />oapgrtunittr_to cast absentee ballots is well ublicized. The other Board members concurred. <br />Motion made by Selectman Sherman to approve the Special Town Election date of October 4, <br />2022 at the Quashnet School at 150 Old Barnstable Road with the polling hours of 12 Noon until <br />7 p.m. <br />Motion seconded by Selectman Weeden. <br />VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0. <br />Roll Call Vote: <br />Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman Weeden, yes Selectman O'Hara, absent <br />Selectman Sherman, yes Opposed, none <br />
