Mash pee IncCusim andDi ersity Committee
.............. .... ..............--
16 Great........... Neck RDadNbrth
'lashyee, M-A 02649
Chairwoman reported the library will need help in taking the pictures down. It is okay to
remain for now, but it will need to be replaced somewhere else. She will be working with
teachers from the school to facilitate this move.
She commented that the Cultural Art Council sponsored the program at the Cotuit Center
for the Arts, reading a play called Neighbors. She was moved by the play. A diverse group
of people read parts. Chairwoman sat next to the Chair for the Cotuit Center. Ms.
Stevenson invited her to tour the display at the library. She will meet with the Chair of the
Cotuit Center at a later date to see if they will be able to continue the exhibit at their space
as well.
2. Race Amity Day Festival
a. Signage
Ms. Stevenson discovered there are all kinds of steps that needed to be taken with the
town in terms of signage. Who We Are had banners paid for and we weren't able to put
them up. She is bringing this up as an item for the future as something we will need to
do in getting approval for signage. Whatever project we do, if we are using signs or
banners, there is a process to follow.
b. Volunteer vs. Paid
Ms. Stevenson spoke with the department in charge of the budget and there were
issues due to the gift cards that were given to some performers as a thank you. We will
need invoices in the future that will distinguish between who is volunteering and who will
be getting paid.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Budget Request
Ms. Stevenson discovered requests have to be made this month for 2024. This past year there
was a request for a small amount of$300.00 put under the Human Services budget. For now,
there is $500.00. It is time we start looking ahead. She would like to propose there be an
operating budget, which is not a standard practice for a committee. She wrote up something to
discuss:
The Committee may conduct ongoing campaigns, host, or participate in free public
events each year to facilitate public education on diversity and community building. It
has taken time to reach this goal, and recent efforts have been successful. We began
with no funding and policies that do not allow for fundraising. Within the past year we
were allotted $300.00 from the Human Services budget, and a made a request in
2023 for$500.00. The programs we developed cost considerably more and in turn we
applied for grants and donations. Who We Are amounted to $3,000.00 and Race
2
