Kathleen Soares
From: Michaela Colombo <colombo.michaela@gmail.com>
Sent Thursday, October 6, 2022 11:03 AM
To: Kathleen Soares
Subject IMPORTANT! Corrected comments for tonight's meeting
Attention!: ::Linksntained herein may not be what they appear to be. :• Please verify the link before
clicking!Ask ITe not sure.
Hi,would you please replace my previously sent comments with these? I am submitting my comments as a resident not
as a Select Board Member.
October 6,2022
Dear Ms. Russell and Members of the Community Preservation Committee,
I have a previously scheduled commitment and will be out of town on October 6th.Thus, I cannot attend the Community
Preservation Committee Public Hearing.Would you kindly read this letter into the minutes? It is clearly important for
the Town of Mashpee to consider dedicating resources to historic preservation, recreation, affordable(and workforce)
housing and open space. All of these are important to the quality of life in Mashpee.
Based on the platform for which I was elected, I prioritize open space and affordable/workforce housing. Protecting and
maintaining sensitive land as natural open space is one step to stop further pollution of our waters. Mashpee's
uniqueness lies in part in its natural open space, nature trails through sensitive areas, and ancient ways. Natural open
space provides tranquility to residents and visitors. Mashpee's natural open space and conservation areas make it
unique among Upper Cape towns. We cannot squander the opportunity to protect these lands that clearly position
Mashpee not only as a destination for water activities(swimming, fishing, boating)and golfing, but also for eco-tourism.
Mashpee residents need to be able to afford to live in Mashpee.Attainable housing and environmental protection do
not have to be at odds.We do not need to cut down more trees. We can redevelop areas that have already been
disturbed to build workforce and affordable housing for our residents. We can ensure that this redevelopment does not
contribute to our water pollution by including wastewater systems that minimize the release of nitrogen in each building
project.
Michaela Wyman-Colombo
35 Meadowbrook Road
Mashpee MA 02649
