Board of Health appeal of DEP Title V Approval—100 Great Neck Rd North
Mr.Harrington commented that an appeal of DEP was put through for 100 Great Neck Road North
to try and have the owner put in a denitrification for the three systems there now. The pre-
conference trial has been pushed out the January 2022. Meditation will be requested at some
point for both sides to try and mediate instead of a full trial or hearing in front of DEP. Rob Mills,
the attorney for the home owner, and Town Council came up with a plan, stating that Board of
Health meet with the engineer of the plans to see if a resolution can happen before the pre-trial
conference.
Mr. Harrington spoke with Brian Yergatian, engineer with BSC group and designer of the system,
and told him that the Board of Health was looking to get some denitrification system to reduce
the nitrogen in the Mashpee River and ultimately the bay. Mr. Yergatian stated that the
homeowner did not want to be tied to monitoring required with a denitrification system. Mr.
Harrington told Mr.Yergatian that he didn't have a solution but would like to reduce the nitrogen
as much as possible.
Mr. Harrington stated that there are other ways beside the standard I/A package. Mr. Yergatian
agreed and will get a hold of Winston Steadman, Upper Cape Engineering, who is well versed in
wastewater treatment. He is an expert in the field, especially in I/A systems. Mr. Harrington is
confident that Mr.Steadman will come up with some solutions and he looks forward to reviewing
what Mr.Steadman comes up with.
1
