(0)539-1438
MASHI'EE HISTORICAL COMISSION
Minutes of Meeting — November 17, 2022
Mashpee Historical Commission Meeting was called to order by Ava Costello at
4:03pm.
Commissioners Present: Ava Costello, Richard DeSorgher, and Nancy Soderberg;.
Rosemary Burns Love, and Joan Tavares -Avant telephoned in. Brian Hyde and Brian
Weeden were not present. In addition, we had McKenzie Ryan from the Mashpee
Enterprise in attendance.
Rosemary had just received a copy of the Dendrochronology Report done in November
2021 by Daniel Miles of the Oxford Dendrochronology Laboratory in the UK. She will
comment on it after she has had time to review it.
Richard moved to accept the Minutes from the October 20, 2022, meeting, and it was
seconded by Rosemary Burns Love, and unanimously approved.
Commissioner Reports
Richard began his report on the nine River Signs that he has been working on He
presented his request for funding - $3500 to the CPC on November 16t", and he will
wait for approval. Then it will go to the May Town Meeting for approval. Richard Klein
of CPC asked us to submit information on any future projects we may be considering.
Richard will need to have funding for the engraving of the War Memorial for the recent
wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we will need to formalize our plans for the historic
walk from the Community Park over to the Community Gardens.
We also should consider some funds for a professional archivist to look over our
present holdings. We have discussed this several times, and we should proceed with
getting this approved.
Ava is still thinking about what we could do with the Attaquin Lot space. She would like
to have an area that people could walk through to perhaps commemorate the industries
of Mashpee. She informed us of the cranberry bog house that is in the Chocaque area
