Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity Committee <br /> 16 Great Neck Road North <br />Mashpee, MA 02649 <br />1. Who We Are <br />They put pictures on display at the MLK Day breakfast in Falmouth. It went over well and <br />was inspiriting to the DEIB group in Falmouth. <br /> <br />Using grant money, a Romanian family was recently interviewed. They have three kids <br />involved in the Mashpee school system. <br /> <br />rd <br />Someone who works for the UN Migrations Agency will be coming on January 23 to meet <br />with students and discuss the different stages of the refugee process. <br /> <br />The photography teacher presented to the Cotuit Center for the Arts, and they would like to <br />host the exhibit at the beginning of 2024. <br /> <br />2. Budget and Grants <br />Ms. Stevenson wrote a grant for Race Amity Day for $2,500. The decision will be made in <br />the beginning of February. She met with Ms. Wilson to discuss the budget request of <br />$5,000 within the Human Services Department and it is still under review. <br /> <br />Ms. Hicks inquired about seeking funding from a bank. Ms. Stevenson noted the Cape Cod <br />5 helped fund Who We Are. <br /> <br />Mr. Klein would like to see if this falls under the qualifications for CPC money. <br /> <br />3. Community Project: Welcome and Belonging <br />The Falmouth DEI brought belonging into the schools. The League of Women Voters is <br />working on belonging. Ms. Stevenson would like to develop a process to make it work. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />1. Mashpee Middle-High School Incident Follow-up <br />Ms. Stevenson responded to Ms. DeBoer in a statement of support. She thought the <br />incident was handled, at that moment, as best it could be. This is where the role of MIDC <br />could support the school system and shed some education and support to the community. <br /> <br />Ms. DeBoer commented that schools are a representation of society, of course there is a <br />conflicted lack of civility and respect that exists. Kids are exposed to this via social media <br />as well as within their homes. An incident that happens where ‘child a’ might to do <br />something to ‘child b’, there needs to be education and consequences.
