<br />MASHPEE COMMUNITY GARDEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE (MCGAC) <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />August 16, 2023 7:00 P.M. <br />Popponesset Meeting Room <br /> <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER: Chair Scharfenberg called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Virginia Scharfenberg, Kirsten Nordstrom <br />GUEST ATTENDEES: Gardeners Roslyn Robinson Mann, Jan Towne, Joe Salvo, Bob McCarthy and Polly Minugh <br /> <br />Meeting Minutes for July 19, 2023: July meeting was cancelled due to projected lack of quorum. <br /> <br />Communications & Correspondence: <br /> Wait List applications for 2024 <br /> Roslyn Robinson Mann requesting a large garden plot for 2024, if available <br /> Jan Towne letter to Board requesting approval to plant an over wintering cover crop in Plot 19. Approved. <br />Volunteer Hours (Polly Minugh): <br /> Polly created a spreadsheet to track the volunteer hours for all community garden members. <br /> A sheet for recording volunteer time spent by individuals is located in the shed. <br />o Members can track their hours here and Polly will update in the spreadsheet. <br />o Members can sign up for one-off hours if a list of tasks is posted. <br />Proposal to become Land Stewards for the two pollinator gardens overseen by Conversation Department. <br /> Virginia to check with Asst. Conservation Agent Dan Kent about the possibility of dividing some of the 2 <br />pollinator gardens’ native grasses and planting them in our Native Plant demo garden. <br /> There may be some budget left to plant additional plants in our Native Plant demo garden. Jan suggested a <br />variety of native plant possibilities: Golden Rod, Asters, Phlox, high bush blueberries, Baptisia, Rudbekia, <br />cone flower. We would need to determine the number of plants to purchase and whether to do so now <br />for fall planting. <br />th <br /> Results of queries will be discussed at September 20 Board meeting <br />DPW <br /> Virginia to contact Catherine Laurent again about a kiosk and about adding more cubicles in the shed to <br />accommodate additional gardeners. <br />Facebook Page (researched by Barbara Fawcett) <br /> Virginia to connect with Terrie Cook in Select Board office about permission to have a private gardeners- <br />only FB page. A public FB page was established some time ago and is on the Town web site. It is not being <br />actively updated. <br /> Terrie had indicated the Town may not approve a private gardeners-only FB page. <br /> <br /> <br />
