Mashpee Select Board <br />Minutes <br />December 18, 2023 <br />APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br />Presentation and Discussion of Visitor Center at,966 Falmouth Friends of the National Wildlife Refine: <br />(continued) <br />Town Manager Rodney C. Collins indicated he has had conversations with high regards for the visitor center <br />proposal. This was a valuable presentation, and it is endorsed by the Town Manager. The property lies under <br />the jurisdiction of the Select Board with no restrictions on the land. <br />Motion made by Selectman Sherman to authorize the Town Manager to negotiate the proposed National <br />Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center on behalf of the Select Board. <br />Motion seconded by Selectman Wyman -Colombo. <br />VOTE:5-0. Unanimous. <br />Roll Call Vote: <br />Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman O'Hara, yes Selectman Sherman, yes <br />Selectman Weeden, yes Selectman Wyman -Colombo, yes Opposed, none <br />It was suggested the Select Board adopt policy to recognize wooded lots to allow the Tribe to burn and heat <br />their homes as well as making a living selling and using wood. It was recommended Town Counsel be <br />consulted regarding the taking of wood, to include utilization by all residents of the Town of Mashpee. <br />Discussion and A alrroval of Official Names for Mashpee AncientwBurial Grounds Mashpee Historical <br />Commission: <br />Ava Costello, Chair of the Historical Commission was before the Select Board to gain approval to name the <br />Ancient Burying Grounds historically correct with appropriate signage to identify the ancient cemeteries. <br />The (4) Mashpee Ancient Burying Grounds include; <br />Lakewood Cemetery — Historic correction: Bourne Ancient Burial Ground <br />Avant Cemetery — Historic correction: Amos -Coombs -Avant Ancient Burial Ground <br />Pocknett Cemetery — Historic correction: Pocknett Ancient Burial Ground <br />Attaquin Cemetery — Historic correction: Attaquin Ancient Burial Ground <br />Motion made by Selectman Sherman to approve the Historically correct names of the Ancient Burial <br />Grounds with appropriate signage to identify these sites. <br />Motion seconded by Selectman Weeden. <br />VOTE:5-0. Ms. Costello <br />indicated she would research this cemetery. <br />
