SHELLFISH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES DECEMBER 12, 2023 — 6:OOPM MASHPEE TOWN HALL — 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH OCKWAY MEETING ROOM PRESENT: Chair, Peter Thomas, Co -Chair, Dick Cook, Shellfish Constable, Chris Avis, Daryl Christensen, Bill Holmes, Buddy Pocknett OTHER ATTENDEES: N/A ABSENT: Jaime Pachico CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session in the Ockway Meeting Room at 6:OOPM. PUBLIC COMMENT: None at this time. MINUTES: Discussion and approval of the October 10, 2023 Shellfish Commission Meeting minutes. A motion was made by Chris Avis to accept the October 10, 2023 Shellfish Commission Meeting minutes. Motion seconded by Mr. Christensen. Motion passed by unanimous consent. COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: None at this time. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Harbor Management Plan Update. Chair Thomas stated that he read in the Enterprise that there was a draft of the Harbor Management Plan and asked if Chis could give an update regarding any highlights in it pertain to shell fishing. Chris stated that the Plan is currently in draft form and it is in multiple sections. He said that it was requested that the entire Plan be presented in draft form so that the entire it can be reviewed all at once. Chris went on to state that there will be a survey sent out in late March or early April. It was stated that public access was a highlight as well as commercial space on the Town piers particularly during the winter months. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Shellfish Constable Report. Chris Avis gave his monthly report stating that the plan right now is to order 3 million oysters and 3 million quahogs. All orders have been confirmed with the exception of Bay Farm. He said that the County is providing $5300. as a supplement. Chris reported that they planted 3 nets of quahogs on Thatch Island in October. 36 floating cages have been moved from the Mashpee River to 3 '/z to 4 feet of water, at low tide, on the North side of Thatch Island to over winter.
