SHELLFISH COMMISSION <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />DECEMBER 12, 2023 — 6:OOPM <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL — 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br />OCKWAY MEETING ROOM <br />PRESENT: Chair, Peter Thomas, Co -Chair, Dick Cook, Shellfish Constable, Chris Avis, <br />Daryl Christensen, Bill Holmes, Buddy Pocknett <br />OTHER ATTENDEES: N/A <br />ABSENT: Jaime Pachico <br />CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session in the <br />Ockway Meeting Room at 6:OOPM. <br />PUBLIC COMMENT: None at this time. <br />MINUTES: Discussion and approval of the October 10, 2023 Shellfish Commission Meeting minutes. <br />A motion was made by Chris Avis to accept the October 10, 2023 Shellfish Commission Meeting <br />minutes. <br />Motion seconded by Mr. Christensen. <br />Motion passed by unanimous consent. <br />COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: None at this time. <br />OLD BUSINESS: <br />1. Harbor Management Plan Update. <br />Chair Thomas stated that he read in the Enterprise that there was a draft of the Harbor Management Plan <br />and asked if Chis could give an update regarding any highlights in it pertain to shell fishing. <br />Chris stated that the Plan is currently in draft form and it is in multiple sections. He said that it was <br />requested that the entire Plan be presented in draft form so that the entire it can be reviewed all at once. <br />Chris went on to state that there will be a survey sent out in late March or early April. <br />It was stated that public access was a highlight as well as commercial space on the Town piers <br />particularly during the winter months. <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br />1. Shellfish Constable Report. <br />Chris Avis gave his monthly report stating that the plan right now is to order 3 million oysters and 3 <br />million quahogs. All orders have been confirmed with the exception of Bay Farm. <br />He said that the County is providing $5300. as a supplement. <br />Chris reported that they planted 3 nets of quahogs on Thatch Island in October. 36 floating cages have <br />been moved from the Mashpee River to 3 '/z to 4 feet of water, at low tide, on the North side of Thatch <br />Island to over winter. <br />
