Reponses to Finance Committee Questions.
The Town Manager stated that he is prepared to respond to the questions that were previously emailed to him
by the Committee.
The first question was relative to the FY2025 unemployment expense going from $40k to $80k.
Mr. Collins explained that based on the FY2023 expenses that were $71,319.66 which is well over the $40,000
that was budgeted. Because they transfer the funds annually into the Unemployment Trust Fund, they did have
funds available to cover the overage. In reviewing FY2024 expenses they have paid $31,706.68 thought
November 2023 and the budget for this fiscal year is $40,000 so they are close to expending those funds. There
has been a decrease in the amount of claims. The last two invoices paid were down considerably and they have
hoping that the downward trend continues. The current balance in the fund is approximately $96,500 and there
are $11,000 in claims that they are disputing. Taking the $11,000 liability into consideration, there is
approximately $85,000 remaining in the fund for this fiscal year. He went on to state that the Finance Director
and the Human Resources Director are in agreement that the figure could be reduced by $20,000.
1
