of any potential risks and rewards the consensus was to move the entire distribution to the
endowment account.
MOTION: Motion was made by Ruth Nickerson to authorize the transfer of the full amount of
the funds received from the estate of Janet G. Gow, held in the special town account to the
Friends of the Library's endowment account held and managed at Santander Bank.
Joan Lyons seconded the motion.
VOTE: Yes-6
Roll Call Vote: Amanda Hall, yes Sandi Lahart, yes
Mary LeClair,yes Joan Lyons, yes
Ann Macdonald, yes Ruth Nickerson, yes
Ann Macdonald provided additional updates on the activities of the Friends of the Library. The
new President of the Friends of the Library is Yvette Shakespeare, formerly of the Museum of
Fine Arts in Boston. She has identified a number of goals for the Friends in the upcoming year:.
Installation of a pergola over the picnic table at the Library.
• Fundraisers and Friendraisers
• $25,000 annual donation to the Library
• Author event with Nathaniel Phillbrick
• Mini-Golf at Library Birthday Party—if possible pending external conditions
Ladies Night Out
• Diversify the Friends Board
• Work with Tribe
Diversit ° and Inclusion Initiatives
Joan Lyons and Sandi Lahart presented research and thoughts in response to the Library
Director's request that the Trustees follow the lead of the Mashpee Public Schools and adopt a
land acknowledgment statement.
It is a formal spoken acknowledgment to recognize the Wampanoag Tribe as the original people
who settled the lands in Mashpee. It is the history of the town, and being a library we would be
telling the story of the town. The Town has not yet adopted a formal statement, but one may be
adopted at May Town Meeting. After further discussion it was decided to take no action at this
time, and wait for the proposal at Town Meeting and follow the Town's lead.
Trustee Advocacy
Nothing to report on this topic at this time.
