*CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE MINUTES Monday, February 26,2024* 3 <br /> Don Myers referred to the last sentence "As we look to the future, we pledge to uphold the <br /> principles of inclusivity, and respect ensuring that the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's voice, and <br /> the voice of all residents, is integral to collaborative governance" proposing that Mashpee <br /> Wampanoag Tribe should be struck from the sentence to achieve a true sense of equity. <br /> Mary Waygan said she was okay with keeping reference to the tribe twice because it helps heal <br /> the sensitive history of the Town and Tribe. <br /> Motion to approve edited version made by Cathy Lewis, motion seconded by Mary Waygan. <br /> The edited version was opened for discussion. <br /> Greg McKelvey suggested substituting the word inclusivity with unity so the beginning of the last <br /> sentence reads "As we look to the future, we pledge to uphold the principles of unity". <br /> David Weeden explained the importance of referencing the tribe twice explaining that it is an <br /> additional form of government within the Town boundary and that the term equitable is essential <br /> and used to address injustices. <br /> The Committee further discussed "Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe" being in the preamble twice and <br /> if it was repetitive.The difference between the tribal people and the tribal government body was <br /> also explained, the tribe is a distinct group of people who share culture, customs, experiences <br /> and privileges.The people are the individuals who make up the tribe but share in the experience. <br /> Don Myers suggested "Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's sovereign voice". <br /> Motion made by Cathy Lewis to approve the edited version with the amendments"As we look <br /> to the future, we pledge to uphold the principles of inclusivity and unity"; "Mashpee <br /> Wampanoag Tribe's sovereign voice"; "Through this preamble, we affirm the Town of <br /> Mashpee's commitment to preserving the cultural and historical essence of our unique <br /> community", motion seconded by Mary Waygan. <br /> Roll Call: <br /> Miller,yes Weeden,yes Collins,yes Furbush,yes Lewis,yes <br /> McKelvey,yes Myers,yes Sherman,yes Waygan,yes <br /> Vote: Unanimous <br /> FinalwAroval of CommunitMYā€˛Survey <br /> John Miller provided a revised draft of the Charter Review Citizen Survey. As soon as the <br /> Committee approves the survey the process of uploading it to software and distributing it to the <br /> public can begin. Logistics still need to be work out with the I.T.
