<br /> <br />SHELLFISH COMMISSION <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />MARCH 12, 2024 – 6:00PM <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL – 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br />OCKWAY MEETING ROOM <br /> <br />PRESENT: Chair, Peter Thomas, Co-Chair, Dick Cook, Shellfish Constable, Chris Avis, <br /> Daryl Christensen, Bill Holmes, Buddy Pocknett <br /> <br />OTHER ATTENDEES: Director of Natural Resources, Ashley Fisher <br /> Water Quality & Shellfish Technician, Tyler Grady <br /> Dwight Pfundstein <br /> <br />ABSENT: Jaime Pachico <br /> <br /> <br />CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session in the <br />Ockway Meeting Room at 6:00PM. <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENT: None at this time. <br /> <br />MINUTES: Discussion and approval of the January 9, 2024 Shellfish Commission Meeting minutes. <br />Discussion and approval of the February 1, 2024 Shellfish Commission Special Meeting <br />minutes. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bill Holmes to accept the January 9, 2024 Shellfish Commission Meeting <br />minutes. <br />Motion seconded by Daryl Christensen. <br />Motion passed by unanimous consent. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bill Holmes to accept the February 1, 2024 Shellfish Commission Special <br />Meeting minutes. <br />Motion seconded by Daryl Christensen. <br />Motion passed by unanimous consent. <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: None at this time. <br /> <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS: <br /> <br />1. 2024 Oyster Seed: Outline by DNR/Shellfish Constable on amount of seed to be purchased, a <br />grow plan, disbursement of, and eventual removal of oysters. <br />Chair Thomas began by stating that he read the State report that was sent to him by Ashley Fisher. He <br />said that he is not a scientist but that what was not in the report were the words, Mandate or Required. <br />He said that he understands, and supports the report and the goal of a baseline of oysters and quahogs to <br />assist in removing nitrogen from the water. <br /> <br />Chris Avis stated that he understands the Commission’s concerns. He said that the water out in the bays <br />is clean, for the most part. The waters that need to be cleaned is up in the rivers and they can’t grow <br />quahogs in those areas because it’s all mud. He said that they have to get oysters up in those tributaries <br />and he feels they have a good handle on the number of oysters that were ordered. <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
