<br />MINUTES <br />MASHPEE BOARD OF SEWER COMMISSIONERS <br />THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 2024 @ 2:00 p.m. <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL <br />WAQUOIT MEETING ROOM <br />16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br />MASHPEE, MA 02649 <br />*In-person, televised meeting* <br /> <br />Present: Chair, Meredith Harris, Co-Chair, Al Towle, Clerk, Catherine Casteneda, <br /> Joe Lyons, Phyllis Sprout, <br /> <br /> <br />Other Attendees: Wastewater Superintendent, Jared Meader <br /> Lynne Barbee, Surf Drive <br /> Yvonne Courtney, Prestwick Lane <br /> Barbara Nichols, Melissa Avenue <br /> <br />Absent: N/A <br /> <br />2:00PM – Convene Meeting: Chair, Meredith Harris called the meeting to order at 2:00PM in <br />open session at Mashpee Town Hall, Waquoit Meeting Room. <br /> <br />PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE <br />MOMENT OF SILENCE <br />PUBLIC PARTICIPATION <br />Chair Harris read a public comment that was received via email from Mary Waygan. Chair <br />Harris stated that the email was sent to her personal email address and asked, that moving <br />forward any public comment emails be sent directly to the Sewer Commission via the website. <br />In her email, Ms. Waygan stated that she is in complete agreement with Irene Checkovich’s <br />letter recently published in the Mashpee Enterprise calling on the Sewer Commission to employ <br />a usage-based billing system. <br /> <br />Lynne Barbee gave a public comment related to reports that the future sewer charges may be <br />based on the number of bedrooms in a home. She stated that this method is supposedly <br />“easier” however, is not always good and fair. It was stated that based on the 2020 census <br />9,757 individual residences are Mashpee Water Commission customers (approx. 91%). Ms. <br />Barbee stated that it would be fair to charge 91% of homes based on actual usage. <br /> <br />Yvonne Courtney made a public comment to address the rate structure. Ms. Courtney stated <br />that she has lived in Mashpee full time 1974. She expressed concern for the people that live in <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
