6
Select Board
Minutes
May 20, 2024
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Public Hearins_a: Private to Public Road Conversion: Watson Drive:
The Select Board opened the Public Hearing to address the private to public road conversion of Watson Drive in
Mashpee as shown on plans entitled"Road Taking Plan Watson Drive" dated January 23, 2024, and prepared by
Cape&Islands Engineering.
After receiving the first petition a cost analysis was conducted. Notice was sent to the property owners to disclose
the maximum estimated cost for the road taking. The total is$197,920. This represents a cost of$16,493.33 for
each property owner.
The Select Board opened the hearing to solicit comment.
Steve McDonald of 30 Watson drive, the lead petitioner for the project indicated there lacks a homeowners
association to share costs. With the upcoming sewer project there is concern as to how this would affect the
residents who want to ensure the road is adequately maintained.
Demetrius Becrelis a resident of 12 Watson Drive indicated he is support with the comments as identified by Mr.
McDonald, and favors Town support for this project.
Elaine Frontero of 12 Watson Drive offered her opinions stating there are drainage issues to address. Although it
is costly, it is hopeful the project would move forward in an expeditious manner. Street lights would also be an
added benefit in this area.
Being_no further comment, the Select Board motioned as follows;
Motion made by Selectman Sherman to close the Public Hearing.
Motion seconded by Selectman Wyman-Colombo.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Roll Call Vote:
Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Sherman,yes
Selectman Weeden, yes Selectman Wyman-Colombo,yes Opposed, none
It was disclosed that a second petition is required to be signed by at least 50%+ 1 of the affected property owners,
and must be received by the Office of the Select Board/Town Manager by Monday,July 8, 2024 to allow for
placement on the October 2024 Town Meeting warrant.
With respect to drainage, the Director of Public Works indicated the project involves sizable drainage as reflected
in the estimate which would also require an additional easement to provide for the added work.
