Call Meeting to Order

Carol Sherman opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m.

2. Approval of 8/27/2024 minutes
Pamela McCarthy moved that the committee approve the 8/27/2024 minutes, Glenn
Thompson seconded. The committee approved the minutes.

3. Chamber update:

Julia said she is leaving the Chamber and will be joining the Community Health Center. Kat will
be taking over as Executive Director.

Julie talked about the Chamber’s Economic Development Committee’s recent work. They did a
needs assessment for local businesses; business owners said their biggest challenges were
finding employees and housing (which prospective employees cannot find locally). As part of
their efforts to build the workforce for local businesses, the Chamber built a relationship with
the high school as many businesses hire part time and summer help, and there are students
who go to work after graduating high school. They also held a job fair in the library in the spring
from noon to 3:00 p.m. (Julie said in the future she would have it go until 4:00 p.m. as no one
from the high school was able to come before 3:00). About 70 people came, many of them
seniors, many who got job offers on the spot. The only complaint from the participating
businesses was that the space was a little small.

For housing, the Chamber did some fundraising and has some money raised to contribute
towards someone’s first, last, and security for a rental if a business has an employee who is
finding that challenging.

Carol said that by October 12 it will be public; there will be a 65-unit apartment building going
up in Mashpee. The units should be affordable/workforce housing (not LeClair Village). The
project was already permitted so they just have to take it to the zoning board of appeals.

Other Chamber news:
 Restaurant month: The Chamber will have a restaurant month in March 2025 to spur
business for local restaurants. They are partnering with Cisco to provide marketing help
