Lewis Newell seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously
approved.

WBNERR Report – John Singleton
John Singleton, Facilities Supervisor for WBNERR, introduced himself to the committee. Mr.
Singleton reported a busy summer at the State Park beach, with no major safety incidents.
During the season, the park employed four lifeguards and four maintenance staff, with
lifeguards on duty 7 days a week. Mr. Singleton stated that the park fared well during the
hurricane Irene, due in part to the staff taking precautionary measures to prepare for the storm,
i.e., taking in the swimming buoys and lifeguard stands before the storm hit. The beach
suffered about two feet of coastal erosion, one toppled tree, and the Kemp Family memorial
bench on the State Park Beach property was swept away by the storm.

Mr. Singleton stated that he is planning to construct a changing building with 3 stalls that will be
ready for the 2012 season, as well as new picnic tables and four new benches, explaining that
the benches will be made from recycled milk jugs to replace wooden benches that suffered
deterioration by ants and other insects. Mr. Singleton stated that he plans to meet with the
Upper Cape Regional Technical School in Bourne, in hopes to involve students in the
construction of the changing facility.

Mr. Singleton also recommended that the South Cape Beach Committee work toward
establishment of a Friends of the SCB State Park volunteer group to assist with projects at the
1
