<br />Town of Mashpee <br /> <br />Shellfish Commission 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> <br />Mashpee, MA 02649 <br /> <br />MINUTES OF MEETING – June 20, 2011 <br /> <br />Attendance: <br />Commissioners: Peter Thomas, William Holmes, John Guerriere and Richard <br />York <br />Others: Concurrent meeting with the Mashpee Board of Selectmen and public <br />attendees. <br /> <br />Convene Meeting: 7:25 PM <br /> <br />Fish, Wildlife and Natural Resources Commission (FWNRC) of the Mashpee <br />Wampanoag Tribe – Quahog Relay to Mashpee Water: <br /> <br />Representatives of the Fish, Wildlife and Natural Resources Commission <br />(FWNRC) of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe described their interest in a relay of <br />contaminatets quahog from the Taunton River (Mount Hope Bay, Fall River area) <br />to Mashpee. Greg Sawyer from the Massachusetts described the contaminated <br />relay program. Shellfish Constable York was in favor of purchasing shellfish <br />seed from hatcheries, but not contaminated relays from out of Town. <br />Enforcement of the relay area when it is closed is a problem. Relayed quahogs <br />do not remove much nitrogen compared to quahogs grown from small seed in <br />Mashpee waters. <br /> <br /> <br />
