Three or four students are
nominated. Nomination forms will be given to students and the recipient will be chosen in mid-
November
Project 351 – Governor Patrick’s initiative. One Eighth Grade student from each city and town is
selected to represent their school. Ambassadors gather in Boston on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
to celebrate community service
Pawtucket Red Sox – recognizes most improved students. One game of the season slated as
“MMS Night”. Honorees receive a certificate from the Paw Sox.
Principal Sheila Arnold likes to “get kids out there” to be recognized for their achievements as
much as possible

Old Business:
School Fundraiser – PTO is sponsoring flower bulb fundraiser. Orders are due September 24.
Response at this time is less than previous year. This is a very lucrative fundraiser as 50% of
profits go back to MMS. As sales increase, percentage of profits received increases
PTO Information – PTO meets once a month in Mrs. Arnold’s office.

New Business:
MCAS results – Seventh Grade Math big improvement in math/Eighth Grade down in math
thth
77% of 7 graders went up in ELA / 78% of 8 graders went down in ELA / 86% is target (key is
to hit target)
th
Current 9 grade class is lowest performing class from grades 3-8
MCAS results brings Mashpee to a level 3 district – this is the beginning of an area where the
State may choose to get involved
There are 5 levels (level 4 = more State money; level 5 = restructuring)
A district self-assessment will be conducted on September 23, 2013
Principal Sheila Arnold knows that MMS will be under scrutiny and is well prepared for
presentations she will need to give
MMS has Superintendent Hyde’s FULL support
MMS will be going back to basic math (pre-algebra, algebra, etc.), adhere closely to the common
core standards and work on the pacing of advanced level students.
General math class size is 18-23 students
Math is a District wide problem – not limited to MMS; being addressed District wide; more
professional development perhaps
Emphasis on showing how to and practice, practice, practice – IXL program
