MASHPEE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENVINDUSTRIAL CORP. MINUTES
MAY 19, 2009
Present: Rene Read, Joe Noonan, Bob Cobuzzi, Robyn Simmons,Mary LeClair, Terrie Cook.
Absent: Bob Walsh
Guest: Marcia King, Assembly of Delegates and Grant Coordinator for the Town of Barnstable
Rene opened the meeting at 6:10 p.m.
Bob Cobuzzi moved that the Minutes of May 5, 2009 be accepted as amended, Robyn Simmons
seconded. Unanimous.
Marcia King was invited to help EDIC with their grant acquisition process. She took a copy of
our grant to peruse. Regional.is the new buzz word for grant recipients. She suggested applying
for grants through the Department of Housing Community Development and DLTA funds from
the State which are looking for regional projects. There is money for technical assistance
through Community Development and Mass. Development. Stimulus money goes to places that
employ large numbers of people. Perhaps EDIC can sell the idea by bringing 20 to 30
employees to our 6 acres in the Industrial Park. She agreed that we want a feasibility study. The
Mashpee Chamber of Commerce is a good resource, and they have a new president.
CEDS: Rene asked the Committee to review the sixteen priority projects, send him their
comments, and he will forward them to the Cape Cod Commission.
Projects and Pursuits: Robyn reported on SBIR and STTR, small business innovation research
and technology research. There is a three-phase process: (1) feasibility study, (2)research and
development, and(3)see the project. Rene commented that it is something most likely already
built. Joe asked Robyn to look into the Adams Institute.
Rene contacted Bob Whritenour and Heather Harper from Falmouth about meeting and working
together on a regional project. Pat Flynn is a very resourceful person who might help us. It
would help to get their perspective.
Rene scheduled Paul Niedzwiecki, Executive Director of the CCC, to come to our June 16'`
meeting. Rene e-mailed Jim Vaccaro to follow up on Boston Concessions.
A discussion occurred regarding the Town owned properties and how they could be conveyed to
EDIC. We need to come up with a plan for these properties. We need to take a look at these
properties with new eyes and ideas. The properties could be sold to neighbors, conservation,
sewer, and businesses. EDIC can do this without a consultant. Terre Cook, our liaison, can
bring her ideas and perspective to this project. Our first priority is to come up with a plan for the
sites we own in the Industrial Park, and sell them. The second priority is to review the vacant
properties from tax-takings.
