TOWN CLERK
MASHPEE
Also .present were: Wayne Duchemin and Sharon Koblinsky.
s
E
The , meeting was called to order at 6 : 10 p.m.
The Minutes of October 25 , 1994 were accepted.
Sid introduced Wayne Duchemin, as our newly appointed EDC
Coordinator; and the members welcomed him aboard. Paul and
Wayne will meet this week to work on the data base. Bob
Whritenour is preparing a contract for Wayne.
OLD BUSINESS
Discussion occurred on what should be included in the Mission
Statement. Ted referred to the CCEDC goals and functions Section
1 , 1-8, and stated we should choose some or all of these in
our Mission Statement. Sid read his Mission Statement, and
Paul recommended_ using Sid ' s first paragraph and adding two
paragraphs from Steve ' s draft. The members agreed with the
editing recommendation and requested that a separate draft be
typed and attached to the Minutes.
Paul reported that Selectman George Costa has set up a Forum
re: the Fish and Wildlife Refuge to be held at the Carol Jacobson
Center on Tuesday, November 22 , from 9 :00 a.m. to 9.: 00 p.m. ,
and he would like EDC to commit some time to show their support.
We have to decide whether to participate. Sid stated he received
a study on the Parker River Wildlife Refuge which will be
distributed to members. EDC needs this data in order to have
an opinion and make an informed decision. Ted stated he was
in favor of EDC making an appearance, but he said EDC. does not
have enough information to disseminate; Paul agreed. Sid asked
does the Committee want to take a vote without data .or does
it want to wait and make -an informed judgement: . Wayne .
Duchemin suggested stating that the Refuge generally meets our
Mission Statement goals , but we cannot speak about it in detail
without total information in front of us. Sid asked what does
the Committee feel about the Wildlife Refuge. Steve stated
he is in favor of it. Sid stated that Mashpee may not benefit
from the Wildlife Refuge, and the beneficiaries from the tourist
business would be Falmouth and Hyannis: due to Mashpee ' s_
lack of popularly priced service businesses. Steve stated the
attitude in Mashpee is changing. Sid reported he- recently
attended hearings on businesses trying to locate in Mashpee,
the results being Texaco withdrew and a recycling plant (after
public resistance) has been taken under advisement.
