Board of Health <br /> Minutes <br /> October 15,1998 <br /> Present: Board of Health Members- Robert Cram, Steven Ball <br /> Board of Health Agent-Elias McQuaid <br /> Assistant Board of Health Agent - Orin Evans <br /> Absent: John Doherty <br /> Guests: Lee Perry- Installation Restoration Program <br /> y Mike Minior- Installation Restoration Program <br /> Greg Braun - State Department of Public Health <br /> Meeting Called to Order by Chairman Cram at 7:05 p.m. <br /> Town Hall, Conference Room #1. <br /> PUBLIC MEETING RE: NEW POND CMMAMTNATION• <br /> The Board of Health held a public meeting for the purpose of discussing <br /> preliminary results from the diffusion sampling conducted by the U.S. <br /> Geological Survey in John's Pond. <br /> Lee Perry, Environmental Specialist for the Installation Restoration Program, <br /> which oversees the clean-up of the base, discussed the new contamination <br /> source with members of the Board of Health and interested public. <br /> Mr. Perry distributed information relative to the U.S. Department of the <br /> Interior, USGS findings to the Board in a memo dated October 2, 1998, <br /> Mr. Perry indicated that vapor diffusion samplers were installed along nine lines. <br /> The lines, 425 ft. long were spaced 25 ft. apart in John's Pond on July 28, 1998. <br /> The samplers were collected and analyzed on August 10 and 11, 1998. <br /> High concentrations of trichloroethylene (TCE) were detected in the vapor <br /> diffusion samplers at line 7 from 75 to 125 ft. offshore. The pond's existing <br /> plume, known as Storm Drain 5, contaminates water 100 to 150 ft. from the <br /> shoreline. <br /> Mr. Perry discussed the analysis of the small swath of WE that does not <br /> appear to be coming from the Massachusetts Military Reservation, and is not <br /> a part of the Storm Drain 5 plume. <br /> i <br />
