Board of Health
Minutes 3
October 15, 1998
Department of Public Health representative Greg Braun suggested
that Mashpee use caution and obtain further information. 'The
health and safety of the pond for recreational purposes is a concern,
and creates the need for additional information.
Additional sampling wells will be installed next month, and reports are
expected to be reviewed in early December.
Ed Baker suggested that deeper wells be driven to ensure a higher level
of confidence to review the entire extent of the contamination to generate further
information. Mr. Baker indicated that the present wells have been drilled at a
limited depth.
Gary Tavares stated that he resides approximately 1000 ft. from the area
of contamination and has visuaIIy seen drums and motor casings in the area
of discussion. The area known as line 7 contains a lot of algae, and there is
an absence of fish. Mr. Tavares indicated that he has seen many malformed
trout in the pond.
Mr. Minior noted that there is documentation relative to malformed growth
on fish contained in the Mashpee Library. The same growths have been
detected in other fish that have been removed from the pond. It is not
directly correlated to the plumes informed Mr. Minor.
Adjournment: 8:20 p.m.
Respectively submitted,
Kathleen M. Soares
Board Secretary
