Mashpee Economic Development Industrial Corporation (EDIC)
Minutes – October 29, 2024
6:00 PM
Jehu Meeting Room

Present: Carol Sherman, Pamela McCarthy, Patrice Pimental, Robyn Simmons, Glenn
Thompson

Absent: Denise Dutson

Guests: Wayne Taylor

1. Call Meeting to Order

Carol Sherman opened the meeting at 6:05 p.m.

2. Mashpee Educate, Dream, Inspire, and Create Contest

Wayne asked about the contest’s format. The committee described the format (business
owners would apply, those accepted would present their business, answer questions from a
panel of judges, and talk about what they would do with the money). Wayne thought the
criteria would keep the pool of potential applicants very small, and that the size of the prizes
would not be worth work required.

After hearing Wayne’s concerns Carol thought it would be best to drop the idea of the contest.
The committee settled on the idea of a spotlight segment or show on Mashpee TV, where a
local business owner is interviewed. It would be a great way for them to get exposure without
having to jump through a lot of hoops, and would bring attention to the EDIC and what the
committee does. Two members of the EDIC could interview a business owner each month,
with different committee members taking turns. (It could not be more than two as it would
violate open meeting laws.)

Pamela moved to put aside the contest and to invite Chris Ball to the next meeting in order to
move forward with a Business Spotlight on Mashpee TV. Glenn Thompson seconded and it
was unanimously approved.

3. Treasurer’s Report:

The EDIC’s checking account has a balance of $20,989. The money market account has a
balance of $113,173 and is making $369 a month in interest.

Next meeting: November 26, 2024

Meeting Adjourned at 6:45.

Respectfully submitted by Pamela McCarthy
