o Restricted Zones: Wakeboarding and surfing are prohibited in waters less than 15 <br />feet deep or within 300 feet of the shoreline. <br />o Purpose: The law aims to protect shorebirds, particularly loons, whose nesting <br />areas can be disrupted by powerful boat wakes. <br />o Boater Education: Watercraft dealers must provide information about boater <br />safety and education courses to purchasers. Additionally, anyone born after <br />January 1, 1999, must complete a boater safety and education course to operate a <br />motorboat with over 25 horsepower or personal watercraft. <br />o Fines: Violating the new law can result in fines up to $100 <br />o This law is part of an effort to balance recreational activities with environmental <br />conservation. <br /> Mashpee River Fish Passage Improvement Project <br />o April 2025 is the expected date for work to be done. <br />o The goal is to enhance fish habitat and migration corridors. <br />o Upper Section - Improvements are being made at the pond outlet, Route 130 <br />crossing, and fish ladder to facilitate better fish migration. <br />o Middle Section - This area involves restoring a cranberry bog near Washburn <br />Pond and enhancing fish passage. <br />o Lower Section - A comprehensive hydrological assessment identifies and <br />prioritizes restoration needs, including crossings at Ashers Path and Route 28. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Fall Newsletter Articles (Revisions) <br />o Make font and heading smaller <br />o Update the information on closure dates should be June 18 to June 26 <br />o Mr. Bibo provided an excerpt on the Boat Ramp Project <br />o Mr. MacDonald provided a statement regarding the Mashpee River Fish Passage <br />Improvement Project <br />Motion made by Mr. MacDonald to approve the Fall Newsletter with the proposed <br />revisions. Ms. McManus seconded the motion. <br />o Roll Call: Ms. McManus (yes), Ms. Nichols (yes), Mr. MacDonald (yes), Mr. <br />Bibo (yes). The motion passed unanimously. <br /> 2025 Proposed Meeting Dates <br />o Mr. MacDonald motioned to accept the cancellation of the following meeting <br />dates: February 2025, November 2024 and 2025, December 2025. Ms. McManus <br />seconded the motion. <br />o Roll Call: Ms. McManus (yes), Ms. Nichols (yes), Mr. MacDonald (yes), Mr. <br />Bibo (yes).
