i <br /> I <br /> Cemetery Commission <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> April 2, 2003 '+ <br /> Members present: Ernie Virglllo, Mike Scirpoli, Charles Hinckley <br /> Others: Catherine Laurent, Mary Keleher <br /> E. Virgillo called the meeting to order at 3:30 M. <br /> The minutes of the Iovember 1 , 2002 and 1larch 3, 2003 meetings were approved. <br /> The Co.nunissioners began with reviewing the updates to the Rules of Operation for the <br /> Town Cemetery made after the March Sea meeting. M. Scirpoli suggested forwarding <br /> copies of the.pules of Operation to local funeral Homes. C. Laurent explained that the <br /> majority of the time a family member will cone in to purchase a plot. At that time they <br /> are handed a one page summary that points out the important parts of the Rules of <br /> Operation that they would be concerned with such as the d1mensions of monuments, <br /> decorations of plots, etc. <br /> E. Virgilio suggested that the funeral homes go to C. Laurent before a burial and she can <br /> give them a copy of the Mules of Operation or a permit. C. Laurent explained that the <br /> funeral hones get the burial perm it from the .Board of Health but other towns have a <br /> separate internment order. E. Virgilio suggested that the Town ofl aslipee should have a <br /> separate internment permit. M. Scirpoli agreed. <br /> In discussing the permit for memorial work C. Laurent suggested that the company apply <br /> for a permit 72 hours prior to any work being done with the requirement that they be <br /> licensed and insured. with each calendar year the monument company or vault company <br /> will submit thee- insurance information and that will be kept on file. <br /> C. Laurent discussed the sizes for monuments for infant plots. She informe l a fatrilly that <br /> there is a restriction that they could only do a flush marker. C. Laurent wanted the <br /> opinion of the Commissioners for flush markers since the Cemetery Building Commi tee <br /> designated flush markers m certain areas. E. Virgilio suggested taking it case by case. If <br /> someone wants an upright monument on a flush only plot they can come before the <br /> Commissioners and male a request. after further discussion the Commissioners agreed <br /> to do away with the designated flush marker areas and allow upright monuments. The <br /> CommissT'oners also discussed the sizes of flush markers and monument headstones. <br /> E. Virgilio expressed his dislike of the set up of the infant plots. M. Sclrpoll and C. <br /> Hinckley suggested getting rid of the infant section. E. Virgilio wants to keep one infant <br /> section. The Commissioners agreed to beep one infant section for now. <br /> C. Laurent brought up the issue of burials for non-Mashpee residents. Under the current <br /> regulations the Commissioners need to approve a burial for non-resident members of <br />
