ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MINUTES
AUGUST 22, 1995
Members Present: Tom Potts , Sharon Koblinsky, Paul Reynolds ,
Ted Lewis, Steve Innis .
Also present: Wayne Duchemin, E.D. Coordinator
The meeting was called to order at 7 : 12 p.m.
MINUTES: The Minutes of the August 8 , 1995 meeting were accepted
with the following correction: p. l , (replace) Jean with Jane.
CORRESPONDENCE: Wayne reported that beautification of the rotary
will be part of the upcoming bond issue to add a breakdown lane
at the rotary and will include adding shrubery, year-round
flowers, a fountain, and sprinklers; nothing from EDC is needed
at this time. Wayne has received several Employment Pool
responses , and he distributed a sample copy of one applicant ' s
profile from the Employment Pool database he established. Tom
polled EDC' s opinion for a survey re: whether selectmen liaisons
are effective; EDC agreed they were. Ted asked about the status
of the Industrial Park; Wayne responded that they are going
to do a DRI for a storage business , and Cape Cod Commission
is meeting with the engineers. Wayne also talked to Jim
O' Connell who stated that a letter will be sent with
instructions; the DRI will follow after that. Bob Whritenour,
Peter Dinizio, Nancy Caffyn, and Jim Vaccaro are aware of this .
Tom asked Wayne to make a- courtesy call to George Costa and
Judy Mills to apprise them about the negotiations occurring
re: the Industrial Park.
BUSINESS SURVEY: Paul spoke with Devon Winey who wants to
know to what extent EDC will be involved with the survey , will
EDC pass out flyers around town on a Saturday morning. It was
the consensus of EDC that they would not be interested in doing
this. Mt. Auburn would like to pursue contacts with residents
about their work and education level and learn more about the
employment situation in Mashpee. Tom stated we may have some
of this information already. Wayne stated the survey idea came
up at the Partnership meeting in response to Tom Fudala ' s request
for a survey by Mt. Auburn, and Bob Whritenour expressed his
concern about the cost factor. Sharon stated that she and Paul
have reviewed EDC' s surveys , and they have some of the answers
already. She suggested going through the surveys first and
then evaluate what further information is needed. Paul noted
that Sharon met with the Tribal Council and Senior Center who
are willing to put out a stack of surveys; Wayne offered to
take over this aspect. Tom expressed concern that this does
not seem like statistically valid information from which to
draw conclusions. Paul stated he would be supportive of Mt.
i
I
