CONSERVATION BOARD MEETING
May 14, 1980
Presents
Pauline F. DeLory, Chairperson
Dorothy G. Studley, Vice Chairperson
Charles Buckingham
Barbara Sloane
Ken Pecci (,joined the meeting late as he was representing the Conservation Board
at the So. Cape Beach meeting)
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
Joseph Paparella, Agent for William & Nora Irwin, Melvin B. and Marcella Bradshaw
(DEQE h43-123), Charles E. and Gloria L. Rollins, Catherine and Edith Paparella --
Lots 278, 279, 280, and 281 -- Popponesset Island Rd. , Bight Circle
Pauline: Reads Notice of Intent. The above parties wish to install a stone retaining
wall along the shoreline in accordance with plans on file with the Mashpee Conservation
Commission.
Joseph Paparellat I suppose all of you are familiar with our Cove in New Seabury. I,
myself, have only been around for a couple of years. In the short time that I have been
here, I have lost a couple of feet of property on my lot and the same is true of all the
others. Mr. Rollins has lost five feet. It is a very gradual process that we are ex-
posed to. The water is very calm. There are no waves to speak of. It is just a gradual
erosion caused by the tide in and the tide out. We would like to get a nice stone sea-
well put in. We have looked at various kinds of seawalls and after looking at several
different ideas, we came to the conclusion that the stone wall in the long run would give
us the best job. I have a contractor lined up to do this work. He was supposed to be
here tonight. He has been out to look at the site and to him it is not a particularly
big job. His name is Mr. Bonito of Falmouth.
Barbara: Are you talking about 52 feet? Is that including all of them?
Pauline: Each one is individual. Each one has a different footage.
Joseph Paparellat Mr.. Rollins has 52 feet; Mr. Bradshaw has 105 feet; Paparella's is
about 75 feet and the Irwin's is 65 feet.
Paulines May I say at this time, that I am sort of glad that everybody is working togeth-
er on this.
Mr.Paparella: I would like the other side done too. It is all bare land. I thought
New Seabury owned it which I found out that they didn't. I don't think anybody is going
to spend the money on seawalls on land that I understand you can't build on.
Barbara: Is that all privately owned?
Mr. Paparellat It is all separately owned, yes. I didn't make any effort to contact the
people.
Charles: This is going to be 8 feet into the ground.
Mr. Paparella: That was Mr. Bonito's recommendation.
Charles: He is not here?
