Affordable Housing Committee
Minutes of Meeting Held Tuesday, April 2, 2002
Mashpee Town Hall — Meeting Room 1
Present: J. Cahalane, L. Botsford, L. Patrick, J. Regan, A. Weinstein, Z. Elizenberry, L.
Williams, R. Terry.
Absent: M. LeClair, and G. Marshall.
A quorum being present, Leila Botsford, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Laverne Williams motioned to accept the minutes of the February 5, 2002 meeting; this was
seconded by Zella Elizenberry; and was unanimously approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Leila Botsford distributed copy of letter she sent to Tribal Affairs asking them to assign a
member who can attend meetings since no representative of the Tribal Council has attended any
of the meetings of the Affordable Housing Committee meetings held thus far.
Leila also distributed copy of letter she sent to the Selectmen wherein she requested several
changes in Chapter 5, Article XVI, since the Committee has encountered difficulties in
conducting meetings due to lack of a quorum being present.
Following discussion, it was decided that:
Leila will follow-up with Joyce Mason to obtain a copy of by-law, since this Committee
may be able on its own to name alternate(s) or replacement(s), whom Selectmen can then
approve.
Leila to address another letter to Tribal Affairs and to send a copy to Glenn Marshall's
home address. Letter to include a deadline for response; and to include a copy of the
Article creating Affordable Housing Committee. Finally, it was suggested that the letter
be sent return -receipt requested.
Leila will also send letters to Mary LeClair and to Bob Sherman,
Louise Patrick asked John Cahalan why the Article she drafted for Town Meeting was not
approved by Selectmen. Further, she noted she read that all Affordable Housing Articles were
taken off. John responded that although he was not at the meeting he understood the land swap
came off because land that Tom designated was originally sought for Conservation; and School
Needs Building Committee now feels we won't need the developer's land for schools.
John further noted that Habitat for Humanities would be starting another building in Spring.
They have 2 lots that Town gave them.
