Smith, Z. h nb rry <br />Meeting was called to order at 7:43 lam <br />New Business: <br />Presentation by May Institute: Joe Realbuto, Joe O'Brian and Marcia Allen <br />. <br />The May Institute was started in 1955 in Chatham by Dr. and Mrs. May to provide <br />treatment and living shills for autistic individuals. <br />At this point the May Institute provides services for developmentally disabled individuals <br />including clay services, vocational services and residential services. <br />Individuals served at the llahpee site are 22 and over. The majority of clients served are <br />in their late 's and early 's. Most have mental retardation and/or brain injuries. Many <br />have other rnaladaptive behaviors. <br />The Town of Mashpee and the May Institute are talking about the Torn donating a piece <br />f land to the Institute for two purposes: a therapeutic greenhouse program and a <br />residential group home with four separate units. <br />The residents would attend day services at the lite. 130 site. <br />The greenhOLise will function as a therapeutic activity for May Institute clients and will <br />also provide interaction with community members through plantings at municipal <br />buildings and donations of vegetables to local food pantries. Thea may be other <br />opportunities for community members to interact with May Institute clients through the <br />green house program. <br />This project is being proposed by way of an article on the October Town Meeting <br />warrant. A suggestion was made that photos be available at ToxNm Meeting to <br />demonstrate hover the project will look. <br />The Committee expressed unanimous support for the project. <br />. <br />A motion was made to accept the RFP for a housing consultant for Needs Assessment as <br />written by Erie Smith. <br />Erie will next bring the RFP to Torn Adrnim'strator Joyce Mason and Selectmen for <br />approval. <br />
