BAILEY, Director ofAssessing <br /> The meeting was called to order at 2:0p.m. The minutes of the meeting of April 21, <br /> 1998 were reviewed. After discussion, it was motioned (Porter), seconded (Greig) and <br /> carried to approve the Minutes of April 21, 1998 with no corrections. <br /> New Business <br /> Mr. Bailey reported that Mr. David Tatley has been hired as the new Assistant in the <br /> Assessor's Office. He served in the sane position in Chatham and cane highly <br /> recommended. Mr. Bailey especially appreciates his strong skills in betterments. He <br /> begins his employment on Monday, October 5. <br /> Mr. Bailey reported that the "Mapping" project is going well. The check plus are in <br /> for sample area (half the town within the month). The town's job is to go out and <br /> check some of this information to see that it's correct. The consultant applied <br /> geographies, but Mr. Bailey noted that he was not all that happy with the quality of the <br /> maps. He has, however, had a meeting with a mapper and things will be cleared up. <br /> The base maps will be finished up probably around the beginning of March. By nest <br /> summer everything should be done. Each town department should benefit from these <br /> maps. <br /> Each committee member signed a letter to release $100,000 from the Overlay Reserve <br /> to Overlay Surplus for appropriation at the town meeting on Monday, October 5 (see <br /> copy attached to original minutes). <br /> With regards to revaluation, Mr. Bailey reported that work has been ongoing through <br /> the summer. He is working on cleaning up some of the outlying areas. The DOR <br /> will be coming on 6 to look at the information Mr. Barley has gathered. He <br /> noted that the preliminary residential information is based soley on sales. There has <br /> been a 10 to 1 % increase In the overall value of the town. There were quite a number <br /> of 1998 sales indicating even higher values than 1997 sales. The average had risen in <br /> 1997 with pockets still unsettled. Sales for 1998 indicate that those pockets are going r <br /> u . 1n addition, good oceanfront property went up this year by 20-30%. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the occupancy status of the Southport Resort <br /> Condominium complex. with approximately 25 units sold, it appears that occupancy <br />
