TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> Board of Assessors <br /> Meeting of Tuesday, March 22, 2006 <br /> Board Attendees: Also Attending: <br /> Heather Noires, clerk Torry Duffy, Director of Assessing <br /> Marcia King, Vice Chairman <br /> Vice Chairperson Marcia King called the meeting to order at :1 o Pull. <br /> As there was n o quorum, appr vaI of.rn in utes from the last meeting held on June 16, 2004, was <br /> deferred until the next Board of Assessors meeting. . <br /> ATB ABATEMENTS. <br /> Two abatement cases from the Appellate Tax Board (AT13), one from Popponesset and one from <br /> Bea Mist were reviewed. The Poppones et abatement application for reduction from$1.7 1111M to <br /> $1.2 MM was approved by the Board. The Sea Mist abatement application for reduction from <br /> $10.2 lull to .1IIIfM was also approved by the Board. <br /> TAX EXEMPT ABATEMENT APPLICATIONS. <br /> Fourteen tax abatement applications from Willowbend were approved by the Burd. These <br /> properties are now exempt from taxation, as a result of a land swap between the Town of <br /> Mashpee and Willowberd, of non-tax properties for other land/properties. <br /> DEAL PROPERTY T ABAT ME TAP L.I ATI g. <br /> There were 17 tax abatement applications approved by the Board, and 19 applications denied. <br /> John Duffy will provide a summary sheet to the Recording Secretary for both the applications <br /> approved, and those denied, with detailed information on each application. The summary sheets <br /> will be attached to these minutes for the record. . <br /> One abatement application for property on map 77, lot 41, 16 Shoestring Bay Condominiums, is <br /> recommended for denial. A second signature from the Board of Assessors is required. John <br /> Duffy will ask Joyce Mason boar to handle getting the second signature, until a replacement for <br /> Les Greig is appointed to the Board. <br /> OTHER 13USI ESS <br /> 1. Marcia King voiced her irritation over the events of the past weeks. She received a prone <br /> call from the Town Manager, berating her for not coming in to the Assessor's Office to take <br /> care of the necessary business of signing off on abatement applications. Marcia stated that <br /> no one had called her to inform her of the passing of ties Greig. Feather Moyes responded <br /> that, in fad she had called Marcia to inform her that hies Greig had been diagnosed with <br /> carver, with only a few weeks to live, and was incapable of carrying out his duties a <br /> Chairman of the Board of Assessors. At[-feather's recommendation, Marcia agreed to come <br /> in once a week on Wednesdays to sign necessary abatement documents. Marcia ding then <br /> admitted that she had not carried out her responsibilities as she had promised, and had <br /> neglected to appear at the Assessor's Vice the following Wednesdays to take care of the <br /> abatement application signatures. <br /> 1 <br />
