M <br /> } <br /> Minutes of the Meeting of the Mashpee Americans with Disabilities Act CormM tee,May <br /> 12,200 <br /> { <br /> The Mashpee Americans with Disabilities Act Conunittee net Thursday, May 12, 2005 } <br /> t Mashpee Town Hall Meeting Room . <br /> Members in attendance: <br /> William Dundon <br /> Marilyn Farren <br /> ri <br /> Beverly Wooldridge <br /> Robert Wooldridge <br /> Incited guests: Rodney Collins, Mashpee Chief of Pollee and Helene Defoe, Mashpee <br /> Librarian <br /> The minutes of the April 12, 2005 meeting were approved, <br /> Chief Collins took time out of busy schedule for a get acquainted visit with the <br /> committee and to discuss matters of mutual concern. <br /> } <br /> a. We gave the Chief a brief history and status of our effort to require standardized street <br /> signs on public ways. The Chief expressed strong support of the measure for safety <br /> reasons and cited difficulties locating addresses in the Win ehim s development as <br /> evidence for the need for such signs. He expressed his belief that safety reasons alone <br /> provided adequate legal justification for requiring better signs. <br /> b. We informed the Chief of our interest In establishing a volunteer parking patrol <br /> program and sought his support and recommendations for establishing and conducting k <br /> such a program. He is supportive of the initiative and indicated a formal policy <br /> including background cheeks on volunteers, would he necessary. He also cited some of <br /> the potential problems that arse when angry motorists confront volunteers. He promised <br /> to research the issue and determine how best to proceed. We provided hien copies of a <br /> number of documents relevant to the issue as a start point for his research. The <br /> handicapped parking enforcement policy in Mashpee Commons was noted to be of <br /> mary concern particularly, as the summer visitors soon will be fighting for smaller <br /> g g <br /> number of parking spaces. Chief Collins stated he would include parking enforcement as <br /> a discussion point in his next meeting with.Commons officials. He also stated pollee <br /> policy is to ticket parking violators anywhere in Mashpee. Finally,the Chief indicated he <br /> would look into increasing parking patrols by Citizen's Academy alumni and Triad and <br /> review torn bylaws to see if more"teeth'may he needed. <br /> Helene Defoe provided a most informative update on the status of the effort to construct <br /> new library on the site of the present library. She displayed detailed sketches of the <br /> planned interior and exterior of the new library. She also gave ars update on the funding <br /> situation and the proposals being considered for a temporary home for library activities <br />
