AD-HOC COMMITTEE ON PLUMES IMPACTING MAS HPEE <br /> MINUTES FEBRUARY 1 # 1998 - <br /> GreLj Taylor , Chairman, called the faeeti.nLj to order at 8 : 35 a.m. <br /> g. <br /> in conference Room #2 at Mash-pee Town Hall* <br /> Present: Greg Taylor , Bob Whri tenour , Nancy Caffyn, Dave Rich, <br /> Elias McQuade , Bob Sherman. <br /> Also: Chris Foley , Bill Sterling <br /> Absent: Bob Craw, Elliot Rosenberg <br /> The Minutes of January 8 , 1998 were approved as amended. <br /> Chris Foley (an environmental officer with AFCEE) gave a <br /> presentation on surface water runoff , replacing Bill Sullivan <br /> who was unable to attend <br /> Chris F. explained the origin of the failure of the separator <br /> back on June 18 , 1996 , There was a. rain storm and an influx <br /> of water containing 300---400 ppb of fuel contaminated water <br /> sdilled over . LEEP was called to the site. Where was a <br /> complete analysis clone on why the s stefa failed , and it was <br /> corrected* The system was pressurized so that it will not go <br /> ud, and a. one- way check valve was installed. The last redort <br /> was 17 ppb* <br /> Chris F. identified SD-1 , 2 ,3 , 4 on the map , and stated that three <br /> rip-rap drains were 'installed and are being monitored b <br /> Bob S. asked for a tour of these areas since he has not visited <br /> thera in awhile. <br /> Nancy C. expressed concern about overflows f roi� SD-1 which could <br /> end up in Ashuiaet Pond. <br /> Chris F. stated that their goal is to contain and recharije within <br /> the bounds of the military property t He is very confident the <br /> problem is fixed <br /> Dave R. asked if the check valve is testable. <br /> Bill SterlinLj stated that since this is the floating ball type , <br /> the only way to test is to overflow 'it, Th.ere is raonthl <br /> scheduled maintenance performed by two deople , and this includes <br /> the oil. separators. Bill S. regularly checks their work. if <br /> the system fails , water will back up into the catch basins and <br /> flow when it can. <br />
