MASHPEE CONSERVATION COMMISSION
minutes 12 October 1995
Commissioners present- John Fitzsimmons , Elliot F s nr s
David Sharpe ? Ralph Shaw , Karry
Derr s i er s , George Green Jr .
Representing P.A. sanders for the Great Oak Road project were
Greg Keelan . Norman Hayes and Renwick Chapman of BSC Group ,
and Greg Tay 1 r v Mashpee DPW Director .
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 7 :00 p .m .
Mr . Chapman advised he had been asked to respond to the
concerns of theCommission regarding drainage on Great Oak
Road . Drawings highlighted n r r cpm the
plans . He and Mr . Hayes walked the area yesterday and spent
time determining the best way to address concerns . Because
there are no contours on the plans , hey measured distances
to high Points and Crests in the hills . The low point ,
station 41 , heading north is 800 feet to the high po: nt at
the crest . They are proposing a standard desi n approach to
minimize and reduce the amount of water com' nq to the
spot and prevent the washout fr m happening as before . The
road comes down a steep grade low point at station 41
and back up and around a 3-4% grade at somewhere around
Station 43+50 , possibly as far as 44 and then changes and
goes back downhill to another low spot that will be addressed
later on .
It is proposed to interceptthe water from the high point y
coming up and Putting i n a series of basins in around the
basins currently installed a h low p i n , go 200 fee.
northerly to around station 39 , install another two catch
basins and continue on uphill to around station 36 with
another pair of catch basins . That will take thewater from
the high Point at around 34 and pick up the drainage from the
gutter and carry it to an equalizer pipe across to the two
leaching pits .
Because of the cut on the side of the road on the westerly
side , he put an equalizer pipe for overflow whenever capacity
is exceeded . It will go into h rock trap area . Catch
basins are designed -dor the ten year storm eve n . . Some times
storms wit teed volume for the leach piis By doing his ,
it will minimize the water and ponding in the low point of
the road and probably overtopping th berm . Along the
grades , hey will put a cape Cod berm , a " rise . Overflow
w'11 g n a 51
' area surface ace st ne , a rap rock
area .
Mr . Rosenberg asked if there is a concrete drainage grate
shown a he edge of thewetlands? s this the same spot
where here is the emergency over r . Chapman advised
