d
, - y • BOARD OF SFLECTME S MEETING
JULY -'3'0.-Ip' 1 - ,O.
Present: -Chairman George A. Benway, Jr, , Selectmen Chester A. Garland,
B. Jean Thomas and Town Counsel,
1. Meeting called to order by Chairman at 2: 00 p.m.
{
2. Paul. Lumsden and Jack Donner of Pirate' s Cove Association met with
Board to see if the Association could get a loan of approximately
$1, 459. 00for read repairs. They had spoken to Burley and he' '
indicated that things were tight. If they used the money out of
their' treasurer, there would be nothing left.
Chairman stated that Burley had checked conditions of roads and
felt that for the most part, they were in satisfactorily condition
and could wait until spring for repairs. The bid the Town has i
good until. Jure 30, Fiscal Year, Chairman also suggested th at
before they put in speed bumps , they check with the Popponesset
Beach Association. They had installed burps and were sorry after-
wards. Mr. Donner stated that they had already checked.
Chairman did not see how the money could be expended as things are
tight. Chairman asked Nancy Blakeman what she thought. Nancy
stated that even if there w as i the money would have to go back
into the General Fund and not back into the Highway Account.
Chairman suggested that may be the Association could get a loam
subject to collection of their dues. Mr. Donner stated that they
had thought about doing that, but they really didn' t want to.
They would have to meet with their Board of Directors to see what
they were going to doO
Chairman stated that we want to help you but there just -isn' t
funds available. Both gentlemen indicated that they understood
and thanked the Board for considering their request.
Mr. Donner stated that he had received a letter from the Chief of
Police regarding speed limits, and he indicated that the' next step
would be to go to the Board of Selectmen for a survey.
Chairman stated that we had done this before for Poppor esset Shore
Road, changed it from 25 to 15 and now they are going back to 25 mph.
The Chief finally got it through to the Association that h could
not enforce 15 mph - just as a thought to you*
Chairman stated that we would go through the sage procedure here
and thea it would be advertised (Association would have to pay for
advertisement) and if I understand it, it is more public relations
if you will, to keep the speed clown. If we het it in court, there ' s
every indication that if it hasn' t been approved by the Department
-
of Public Works, the judge will throw it out.
