AFFI SIA i ISE ACTION COMMITTEE <br /> MEETING OF AUGUST 1 , 2008 -Dotes <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL <br /> Committee Members present: Janice Rhoden,Chairman and l an*l n Rollins, Marilyn <br /> Farren, AA/EEO, Selectman Cook (Bd. of selectman liaison to the A.A. Committee), <br /> Joyce Mason, Town Manager,were also present during the meeting. <br /> Meeting convened at 5:30 p.m. <br /> Since there wasn't a quote ne'votes were taken and notes of discussion as are follows: <br /> Request of Selectmen—re: S. Setian--Armenian Genocide <br /> Chairman Janice Rhoden bfiefly discussed the fact that she sent a memo to the Board of <br /> Selectmen relative to the Selectmen's request that the Committee review and respond <br /> back to them relative to the Shirley Setian request to serer ties with the A.D.L. in the No <br /> Place for Hate Program. <br /> The memo dated,August 5, 2008 read "After careful consideration of the role of the <br /> volunteer members for both the Affirmative Action Committee and the leo Place for Hate <br /> Program, of which the members are to conduct activities and events only, along with the <br /> fact that the Board of s ele etmen 'is the Town of Mashpee's policy making entity, it is <br /> recommended that the request of Shirley setian relative to the Armenian Genocide <br /> recognition by the Anti--Defamation League and the Town's fzxrther involvement in their <br /> No Place for Hate Program be sent back to the Board of Selectmen'' <br /> Celtic Posters <br /> Discussion on what to do with the Celtic posters ensued relative a raffle. The Town <br /> Manager suggested that they apply for a raffle permit. The fee for a permit is 0; <br /> however, selectman Cook mentioned that sine it is a town fee, it could he waived by the <br /> Board of Selectmen. Janice Rhoden said that she would call the Celtic's to ask if we <br /> could raffle the posters. The Town tanager said that she would cheek to see if we could <br /> set up an account. <br /> Man*lyn Rollins conunented that we need an account and funds and to know if the <br /> Selectmen are on heard with the program and then we could move ahead with the <br /> proposal; she commented"how can we move ahead without a budget". <br /> Janice Rhoden commented that it has been a stumbling block since she started. <br /> Discussion of Matching grant <br /> hainna.an Rhoden asked the Town Manager and s el eetman.Cook if the town could put <br /> up 100 toward a matching grant through the A.D.L. The Town Manager, Joyce Mason, <br /> said it tabes Board of Selectmen approval to file the application with a brief`description. <br /> She suggested that they work on the description of the project and a summary and that <br /> i <br /> is <br />
