Notes from Mashpee Affirmative Action Committee,8/29106,4:30--5:30 pm <br /> (These are not"minutes") <br /> Present were: <br /> Katherine(K)Brown <br /> Norma Kwnin <br /> Steven Peters(not yet officially appointed) <br /> Janice Rhoden(not yet officially appointed) <br /> Marilyn Farren,Mashpee Personnel Officer,Mashpee Affirmative Action Officer,Ex-Officio <br /> member of the committee??? <br /> Marilyn Farren told the group that: <br /> The group is a"hearing committee"for town employees only,not for the Mashpee general public <br /> Don Meyers is the selectman appointed to meet with the committee(he was not present) <br /> One of the members of the committee will be appointed as the"Compliance Officer"(What does this <br /> mean?) <br /> The selectmen meet on 9/11106. It is expected that Peters and Rhoden will be officially accepted as <br /> committee members then. <br /> Copies of the"Town of Mashpee Affirmative Action Policy"were given out; it is suggest that we all read(or <br /> at least look over)the document before the next meeting. <br /> Janice Rhoden asked: <br /> If statistics on Affirmative Action Matters had been kept in the past(answer: no) <br /> If any resources had been developed to give to public(answer: no) <br /> Has any one from MCAD(Mass. Commission Against Discrimination)or the Anti-Defamation <br /> League(Boston area)been brought to the cape to Dain people(answer: NO) <br /> Norma Kumin,who was on the previous Affirmative Action Committee,stated that there are two issues that <br /> the committee deals with: <br /> Lthe functions of the Affirmative Action Committee as laid out in the Affirmative Action Policy <br /> 2.Functions of Na Place for Hate <br /> No Place for Hate(organized by Anti-Defamation League and the Massachusetts Municipal Association) <br /> The committee will need to"baring forward the NPFH proclamation"to the Board of Selectmen to get <br /> the NPFH status in Mashpee re-instituted. <br /> There is one activity per year required by the NPFH guidelines <br /> Janice Rhoden asked if there is a budget for such activities(answer:perhaps a small one) <br /> Discussion <br /> There was some discussion about how this committee could actually reach out to the general Mashpee <br /> community to help people who may have experienced discrimination or any form of hate. 'There was <br /> hope expressed that we could help prevent incidents like the"Pocknet Affair." <br /> -I- <br />
