M AS1ME A FIRi,!AT IVE ACTION MEETING <br /> JUNE 25 , 2002 <br /> Present: Norwa Kumin, Melbourne Cragwell , Donna Lopez , Gordon <br /> Green, Myrna Nuey , Marilyn Farren, Joyce Mason. <br /> Melbourne C. chaired the meeting in Jan Strickland ' s absence. <br /> The Minutes of April 10 , 2002 were accepted as presented. <br /> Marita Scott resigned in writing. She enjoyed working with <br /> the Committee. <br /> Donna L. announced she was a write-in candidate on the School <br /> Committee and elected May 5th . Congrads to Donna L. Donna <br /> was appointed the liaison for Affirmative Action to the School <br /> Comwi ttee. <br /> Melbourne C. asked about the AA policy. Marilyn F. explained <br /> we do not deal with School issues . Marilyn. is accountable on <br /> the municipal side. When we instituted a "No Place for Hate" <br /> campaign, it included the school . Donna L. has a dual role <br /> reporting back to the School Cowmittee from the AA Committee. <br /> Donna does not want to work on things without walking the talk. <br /> What about the people looking for advocacy and support in an <br /> environiEaent that is suppose to be a no place for hate. <br /> Melbourne C. stated that our COWILlittee is a reaction corm-Attee. <br /> We do not set policy . Joyce M. stated that Jan Strickland niet <br /> with the Selectmen to talk about what AA is doing. AA does <br /> not have the authority to get involved with school issues . <br /> AA was organized to handle municipal government employees only. <br /> Gordon G. asked how compliance issues are handled. Joyce stated <br /> the State Procurement officer reviews , then the AA Committee. <br /> The Selectmen have to be careful since the AA Hearing Board <br /> are not insured. It should be adopted for municipal government <br /> only, and careful on being a hearing board for the comauunity <br /> or school. <br /> Norma K. read the Proclamation for No Place for Hate from March <br /> lst , 2000 which promotes zero tolerance year round . Marilyn <br /> asked where does the liability fall. AA is a hearing board <br /> for an employee who does not feel they are treated fairly. <br /> Marily is the officer. Donna L. suggested get a definition <br /> what the State feels is an AA policy. MACD exists at the State <br /> level . Joyce M. suggested create a proposal and subiAt for <br /> the Selectmen ' s approval . Define what the Committee sees as <br /> their role (update) and submit to the SelectlLien. There could <br /> be legal rainifications if a Town appointed Committee is giving <br /> advice and the panty is not satisfied. <br />
