Cemetery Commission
October 31, 2018
Members Present: Ernest Virgilio
Mike Scirpoli
Charlie Hinckley
Others: Rodney Collins, Town Manager
Catherine Laurent, DPW Director
The Commission convened the meeting at 4:00 pm at Great Neck Woods Cemetery.
A walk through of the cemetery was conducted. The Town Manager saw for himself the
decoration of the plots and the items causing concern. He agreed that decoration should not
interfere with maintenance of the cemetery by DPW and did not object to imposition of
reasonable conditions for decoration.
Conditions discussed included for plantings, including shrubs, no encroachment onto adjacent
plots and no obstruction of the headstones.
For other items, loose items such as stones, shells, ornaments, and similar that requires DPW to
move them for mowing should not be permitted. Individual lights should not be permitted. For
other items, a condition allowing them for a period of time after interment before removal
might be reasonable.
The Commission will draft an amendment to the regulations for approval by the Board of
Selectmen.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm.
Respectively submitted,
Catherine Lauu t
DPW Director
