7.One open item is the hookup of the kitchen. There will be no certificate of occupancy until this occurs. Two bids from plumbers have been received for this work, one for$5,000 and a second one for$2100. Bids for kitchen electrical hookup work will also be required. 8. Several hundred shrubs have been planted,which represents 85% of all the plantings. 9. A pump for the well has been installed. A 5x5x5 shed, with a sloping roof, was purchased for $1,100 to cover the slab over the pump. The shed color matches that of the building. 10. There is no coffee machine donation to date. Irving Goldberg is looking into finding a donor. The coffee maker will be the type that makes one cup of coffee at a time. Jim Long will touch base with the Filter Press Company about getting this type of coffeemaker. 11. Iry reported that the contingency fund still has $25,000 to$30,000 remaining. Money from the fund will be used to cover$3000 for moving costs, tile for the bathrooms, and $1,081 for the Comcast bill. 12. The trees abutting the property in the back are unsightly, and need to be replaced. We will need to approach the Abutters for their agreement to remove these trees, with the understanding that they will be replaced with a new bank of taller, more attractive trees. PROJECTS Furniture—Jim Long. Jim reported that most of the furniture has been ordered. Delivery is expected by Dec. 27th or Dec. 28th. The exception is the conference room table, which will be delivered the following week. The lobby lounge furniture is being ordered, and may or may not be delivered by the January 28th grand opening event. The carpet color is being checked by Terry before the order is finalized. j Jim announced that an art subcommittee meeting is scheduled for Dec. 17th, at 1:30 PM at the old Senior Center, to discuss artwork to be considered for the new Center. Artists have approached Jim Long and Ed Adams with offers of donations of artwork. The subcommittee will need to decide what is needed, what is appropriate, and what wall space will be available for hanging paintings. The art subcommittee will report their decisions on these issues to the Senior Center Building Committee. Irving Goldberg suggested considering the idea of having rotating art exhibits by local artists. Window blinds still need to be decided upon. This topic will be discussed at the 12/17/04 meeting. Landscaping—Ed Adams. Ed stated that a great debt of gratitude is owed to two people: Ellis Allen and Jane Capelotti. Jane's expertise was invaluable in determining what plantings would be appropriate for the Center grounds, as well as when and where the planting should take place. Ellis had all kinds of connections and was instrumental in arranging for service and plant donations. They will be guiding the plantings that will take place in the spring. Both Jane and Ellis will be recognized for their contributions on the Tree of Life in the new Senior Center. Moving—Jim Long. Jim has received three quotes from moving companies, one taken over the phone, and the other two in writing. The quotes range from $1800 to $2500. Furniture to be relocated to the new Center has been marked. Any furniture not relocated will be available for the Leisure Services Dept., when they assume the use of the building. The subject of how many picnic tables should be relocated to the new Center was discussed at length. A motion was made by Irving Goldberg to move four of the tables now, and to leave the balance of the tables at the old Senior Center, with the stipulation that they will be available for use by the new Center if needed. The motion was seconded by Betty Nichols, and unanimously approved by the Committee. The family of Steve Gorney has donated $1300 to the Senior Center. They requested that the funds be used to develop a meditation area on the grounds of the new Center.The Landscaping Committee will investigate the possibility of incorporating such an area into the landscaping plans for the Center. 2
