The first order of business was to identify the
architect firms given top rating by the committee, chosen from the list of eleven firms selected for
consideration from those proposing in response to the RFP. A poll of the committee was taken, and the
results were as follows:
Akro Associates and John Lundquist, six votes each
John Catlin and Keenan& Kenny, five votes each
The committee decided to invite all four of these firms to present their plans to the Committee, giving
each firm an hour's time. Ahone call to each firm resulted in the following presentation schedule for
P 9
Wednesday, March 131h, 2002, at the Senior Center.
9:30 AM Akro Associates
10:30 AM Brown Lundquist
12:30 PM Keenan &Kenny
2:00 PM John Catlin&Associates
Questions for the Architects
Joyce Mason advised that it would not be in our best interest to submit a list of our concerns to the
architects up front. Rather, we should hear what they propose to do for us, and then pose any questions
we may have.
It was noted that.
-all the architect firms use a large number of consultants, which possibly could present timing
problems for the project
- Liability insurance is normally in the amount of$1 MM
-The norm for architects'fees is close to 6%to 7%
-Cape Cod Commission needs to review any building projects over 10,000 sq. ft. Joyce Mason
will contact Tom Fudala, Town Planner, to handle this issue.
Joyce Mason agreed to ensure that the Selectmen's meeting agenda on 3/18/02 would include the review
of this committee's recommendations for the architect firm to be used for the new Senior Center.
Design Considerations
It was agreed that the committee would have a programming session with the architect finalist to
determine what we are looking for in our new Senior Center. Architect firms normally have interior
designers who assist with recommendations to their clients. The selection of interior furnishings will be
up to the committee. Furniture stores such as Ethan Allen provide free consultation service. See
Attachment A for a partial list of the committee's design considerations for the new Senior Center.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Ina G.
